One thing we did see a lot of was accidents - some looked like they could be quite serious. I saw at least 2 people lying on the road with ambulance staff, plus more ambulances wizzing around. I guess with 27,000 cyclists all going the same place I suppose it's inevitable. All around, the marshalls were great and very helpful; whether warning of "black spots", or cracking jokes - making a good spirit all around. Some of us clocked 58km/h down hills. The craziest of all were the in-line skaters - they were barrelling down the hills as fast as the bikes! Wouldn't want them to hit a bump. |
